As a homeowner, you have a lot of choices when looking at the material for your roof. While many will stick with regular asphalt shingle roofing, this is certainly not the only thing that you need to be saddled with for the rest of your life owning your home. Some choices include metal and tile roofing, among other specialized materials that roofing contractors offer.

Of these, tile roofing is probably one of the most cost-effective, highly durable systems you can ever put atop your home. In today’s post, Roofmasters Roofing & Sheet Metal explains why.
Durability
Tile roofs, especially those made of concrete, can last over half a century. 50 years—that’s 30, even 40 years more than an asphalt shingle roof and 20 years more than a sheet metal roof. Tile roofs can also withstand inclement weather more than other roofing types, including hail, wind, rot and fires. To round out its impeccable quality, tile roof manufacturers even attach a 50-year warranty on their products.
Maintenance
Tile roofs require the barest of maintenance, unlike an asphalt shingle roof. Tiles are tougher than asphalt roofs, which are practically just layers of granules held together by glue. But like an asphalt shingle roof, a damaged tile need only that tile to be replaced, instead of overhauling the entire thing. Plus, when you clean your tile roof, you don’t need to watch your step as you generally need to do with asphalt shingle roofs; tiles can support a lot more weight than asphalt shingles.
Energy Efficiency
Tile roofs also reflect more heat and light from the sun, instead of absorbing it like regular asphalt shingles. This minimizes the amount of energy required to cool the interior of the home, reducing energy consumption.
Cost
The only disadvantage of tile roofs—if at all—is their cost. Durability, low maintenance, and energy efficiency are offset by the cost of a tile used in tile roofs. Pound for pound, though, tile roofs can pay for themselves like asphalt shingles, and last far longer.
